Fragments Collection

Toni’s careful attention to detail lends itself well to her upcoming collection entitled ‘Fragments’, which beautifully captures the blending of texture, surface and tone within each piece. Within this new collection, Toni has been able to explore the manipulation of surface, through the bending and overall movement of the 3D shapes, whilst embracing the utility of texture to stitch the pieces onto the marble-like backdrop of each canvas.

The pieces within this collection are reminiscent of an amazing project Toni worked on alongside Bethany Riley Interiors to create a breath-taking feature piece for the stunning home of Perrie Edwards and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, amongst four other original pieces on canvas. The project beautifully combined both Toni and Bethany’s talents and keen eye for detail, with Bethany kindly adding that ‘the first thing about her work that caught my eye was the way she uses texture within her pieces – it includes your senses and feels like an experience’. Whilst inspired by this project with Bethany Riley, ‘Fragments’ has taken on a life of its own, allowing Toni to explore her background in textiles in a whole new way within each piece of art.

Toni’s background as an artist began in textile craft and in the manipulation of surface. With this in mind, the collection has been ground-breaking in how it has allowed Toni to use her primary craft in an innovative way to add texture and depth to any wall space. Toni herself noted that ‘this collection has allowed me to harness my background in textile craft to produce a collection of 3D artwork that remains true to my existing artistic form’.

The different metal shapes within the artworks are perfectly complemented by their personal significance to Toni, with each shape representing a different, inspiring location around the world. Whilst the chosen shapes are of individual importance to Toni herself, she added that ‘the meaning behind each piece can be unique to each and every one of us’. Whilst witnessing the artwork evolve from an idea to the finished product, something I found extremely poignant was how each piece represents a hopeful reminder of the freedom to travel that is just around the corner. The restrictions across 2020/2021 have meant that many of us have not been able to visit faraway destinations, reunite with our friends and family who may live in other countries, and explore the beautiful world in which we live. Perhaps, then, this collection of stunning 3D artworks could serve as a landmark to bring a portion of the world that you love, or wish to visit, into your own home.

The pieces within this collection are intricately layered to add interest to any wall space, particularly within a wall recess or as a feature where there is lots of existing texture within the room. The pieces are comprised of beautiful shades of taupe, grey, warm beige, soft sand and tonal metallics, which are quite muted, and therefore accentuate the depth of the space around the artwork whilst proving a spectacle to any blank wall space.

Further details of each piece, including the size, colours and inspiration can be found below.

Florence | £650.00 | Size including frame 335mm x 335mm | Depth 40mm | Original painting with hand stitched coated metal fragments | Hand made tray frame chosen to complement the piece

Florence is a beautifully inspiring city, with Toni having noted that ‘I have always longed to visit Florence. I once read a novel about a Vineyard just outside of Florence and it was so dreamy and romantic that now I want to stay there. I am so excited to wander around the Uffizi Gallery and observe the Statue of David with my little boy one day!’ Florence has so much to offer, from its stunning rooftop views to its overflowing culture, and this piece would perfectly accentuate the home of anybody who shares a similar affinity to the city. The metallic rose gold of the 3D pieces is perfectly balanced across the marble-like backdrop of the canvas, similar to how the silhouette of Florence is laced among the cloudy skies.

Venice | £650.00 | Size including frame 335mm x 335mm | Depth 40mm | Original painting with hand stitched coated metal fragments | Hand made tray frame chosen to complement the piece

Having become engaged to be married amongst the romantic streets of Venice, it is understandable that Toni shares a fondness for the city which is replicated in the delicate nature of this artwork. The artist stated that ‘This was one of the happiest times in my life. I felt like I was quite literally floating on water whilst we were there.’ The hints of pale brass from the 3D pieces amongst the beautiful backdrop mirror the reflection of the lights which shine upon the water that consumes this beautiful city. The piece beautifully captures the euphoria one might feel when visiting Venice.

California | £650.00 | Size including frame 335mm x 335mm | Depth 40mm  | Original painting with hand stitched coated metal fragments | Hand made tray frame chosen to complement the piece.

California is a beautifully picturesque location with so much to offer. Despite not having had the opportunity to visit yet, Toni added that it is a location full of opportunities and is on her travel list! The piece aims to encapsulate the vast range of environments within California, ranging from the mystic mountains and expansive forests, whilst acknowledging the sun-kissed surf beaches and dramatic deserts in the textured elements of the piece.

Dublin | £650.00 | Size including frame 335mm x 335mm | Depth 40mm | Original painting with hand stitched coated metal fragments | Hand made tray frame chosen to complement the piece

Dublin is another special location to Toni, and I am sure it is to many of us too. It is so easy to completely lose yourself in the stone structures or soaking up the history of the city. The manipulation of each metal piece was influenced by the movement of the buildings in and around Dublin. The atmosphere of Dublin is entwined with laughter and love, with people singing and dancing sprinkled across the city. Toni has visited before and completely fell in love with the carefree nature of the city juxtaposed with the renowned architecture!

London | £650.00 | Size including frame 335mm x 335mm | Depth 35mm | Original painting with hand stitched coated metal fragments | Hand made tray frame chosen to complement the piece

When asked about what inspired this piece, Toni noted that ‘As a West Yorkshire girl, London has always been intriguing to me. I love the hustle and bustle of the city and the freedom the city inspires within’. Influenced by the textures within the cityscape, ‘London’ is full of depth through the manipulation of surface. Like many cities across the world, London is packed full of exciting opportunities, beautiful architecture and culture, however, the city is unique in the sense that art is inescapable. Whether you are in a particular gallery or aimlessly floating through the streets, this piece aims to recreate the feeling that art is everywhere and all-encompassing across the city.

Budapest | £650.00 | Size including frame 335mm x 335mm | Depth 32mm | Original painting with hand stitched coated metal fragments | Hand made tray frame chosen to complement the piece

It is impossible to think of Budapest without imagining the stunning scenery, punctuated by the shimmering lights dancing upon the River Danube. Each metal fragment twinkles upon the canvas in the light, calmly mirroring the liveliness of the city lights amongst the water. It is such a special city to many of us, with so much art and culture to be explored and consumed.

Bruges | £650.00 | Size including frame 335mm x 335mm | Depth 35mm | Original painting with hand stitched coated metal fragments | Hand made tray frame chosen to complement the piece

Toni and her husband Tom have visited this idyllic and peaceful city several times and have completely fallen for its stunning surroundings and calming energy. Amongst the picturesque and interesting architecture, they both stumbled upon a small, tranquil garden hidden amongst the excitement of the city. This quaint area had a mini water feature, burning incense and various cosy corners to sit and relax, read or sketch amongst the beautiful plant life. The piece was most definitely inspired by the serenity of the water flowing through Bruges amongst the beautiful buildings.

Rome | £650.00 | Size including frame 335mm x 335mm | Depth 40mm | Original painting with hand stitched coated metal fragments | Hand made tray frame chosen to complement the piece

Influenced by the materials used within the architecture, this piece encompasses the stone colours reminiscent of those seen in the colosseum and the metallic brass of the hopeful wishing coins thrown into the Trevi Fountain. The colours of the buildings, coupled with the crumbling textures have often inspired Toni’s artwork, and this piece certainly is no exception!

New York | £650.00 | Size including frame 335mm x 335mm | Depth 33mm | Original painting with hand stitched coated metal fragments | Hand made tray frame chosen to complement the piece

The bright lights and bustling energy of New York are perfectly replicated within the juxtaposing brass and muted greige tones peeking through this piece. Alongside the bustling lifestyle and the copious stories of those residing within the city, Toni was particularly inspired by the artistic freedom the city encourages. The textures within the piece are subtly layered to represent the breadth of inspiring moments happening within the city at any given time, while the brass frame delicately ties the piece together. Toni also has some wonderful collectors based in New York and she is very much looking forward to a visit when the world is a safer place again.
